Modern Ski Chalet Style

Today, I thought you might be interested in seeing some photos of half a dozen or so chalets currently offered up for sale by the Barnes real estate agency in Mageve, France.  

I selected photos of the most modern chalets from their listings.  These really catch the spirit of contemporary chalet style.

Above, I love the contrast in this great room of the modern shapes with the antiqued beams.  There is great volume in the ceiling here and the overscale modern sofa is a perfect anchor to this scale.  Simple furnishings.  Everything is kept large and clean.  There is nothing unnecessary here.

Here, above, modern furnishings and lighting are set amongst rustic beams and wood clad walls.  This great room is sparse but welcoming.   Simple furnishings rest below a complicated textured rustic ceiling of many angles, which is also repeated in the wall of trapezoid windows.

Here, the chalet itself is modern.  The wall of windows which opens to the outdoors contributes to a light-filled clean, contemporary feel.  The Europeans really love these enormous sectionals that pretty much provide all the seating a room needs.  Of course, they're statement making, too.  The rusted steel fireplace and the cluster of modern glass tear drop lights are two spectacular details that hold their own against the weight and importance of the sectional.  

Above, a modern fireplace and stone wall have been built into an old chalet which has been opened up to create one great room.  Contemporary-style furnishings and lighting have been added.  Again, furnishings and accessories have been kept simple and clean.

A new chalet with wood and beam details all on the square.  Big chunky wood trim pieces and over-scale furnishings kept simple.  A welcoming, cozy room despite the scale and style.

Sectionals on steroids.  This gorgeous symmetrical-style room with twin sectionals facing each other has all the impact one could ask for.  The fur pillows and throws give the room a luxe quality as well as the floor to ceiling curtains which soften the room and provide elegance.  Stunning.

Modern shapes with a slight nod to tradition. The shape of the fireplace is so European and brings great impact to the room.  A few antiques mix with big chunky modern pieces.  Everything is beautifully selected.  The smokey neutral color palate keeps the room contemporary and sophisticated.  Gorgeous.
