Eastern Accents Mountain and Resort Collection

Eastern Accents has just published a Mountain and Resort Collection brochure and I thought you'd like to see some of the photos from it.

This bedding line is comfortably priced and I think they do a nice job of capturing the look and feel that many people like to live with in their mountain homes.  Some of the beds are more traditionally rustic and others are very clean and contemporary.

The rooms are staged out in creative ways and offer up some fun decorating ideas, too.

I really like this hodge-podge wall of old black and white photos and engravings above the bed and the way it contrasts with the clean modern bedding.   

Pretty...but not too pretty for the mountains.

Handsome bedding and a gorgeous area rug.  Plaids and window pane checks have been a part of mountain interiors for many years now.  This is a fresh modern take on them.  

Above, I love the traditional plaid wallpaper with the Suzani inspired fabrics.  This makes a cozy bedroom, perfect for a winter snow storm.

Modern and understated.  Nothing too out there, here.  Just simple good taste.   

European mountain style-inspired.  I love antiques and I think this room uses them beautifully.

Modern and simple and yet the orange carpet and toss pillow punch up the wow-factor.

This one is my favorite.  I love all the faux fur and the eclectic collection of artwork and accessories.  Chocolate, cream, black and white.  Simple colors but lots of impact.

Here's my opinion...people don't use blues often enough in mountain homes.  It's an overlooked color and it works beautifully with the stone and wood in so much of our construction.  I love it when clients ask for blue!

Simple, clean, beautiful and just a teeny bit of personality with the crazy white furry pillows and pouf.

Hunting for a Photo

I've always loved this photo!

I've been reading the Gorsuch catalog for years and this photo used to be on the back cover. Of course, I saved a copy of it but it became lost over the years. To my surprise it turned up in a vendor catalog recently. I had to share it with you.

The bed is from Genessee River Trading Company ($2025-$2800) and the area rug is from New River Trading Company and is available custom in any size or colorway. I'm not sure about the bedding, but I think it came from Traditions. The old oil painting, folk art painted Tyrolean armoire and the various other small antiques add to the charm of the room, don't you think? I love to mix new and old together like this. It gives rooms more character.

Delightful Bedding

I do love European Mountain Style!  It's not always the style that every client wants, but when I get a client who wants chalet inspired interiors, I'm purring!

These are some bedding pillows from a house I've been working on recently. First, let me say that the wallpaper you see here is a Pierre Frey favorite, Everan. It comes in some great colorways:

By the way, this pattern also comes in fabric and the six color choices are absolutely beautiful! 

The large Euro shams in the background are custom made in a charming stag pattern from Maria Flora called Stelvio:

The two front shams are made up in another Pierre Frey, Patiala, a favorite of mine (but then I loooove anything Pierre Frey):

Finally, the front toss pillow is in Schumacher's Woeburn Meadow:

Woburn Meadow is a fabric I have used repeatedly for years.  It makes up beautifully into bedspreads and curtains.  It has a subtle sophistication but works well in a rustic environment.  And, of course, red looks so great in mountain houses!

Pierre Frey's Tyrol

This Pierre Frey fabric has been around for many years now.  It's been one of my favorites ever since I started designing mountain interiors over seventeen years ago.

Tyrol makes up beautifully into curtains.  In a bedroom, I would also upholster the headboard in it, or use it for Euro shams.

What To Do With a Small Bedroom

My answer:  cover the walls, windows and bed with the same pattern.  It creates a charming little cocoon.  Your eye is so entertained by the pattern that you don't notice the small size of the room.

Embroidered Skier Sheets

Well, the plow is in front of my house at this very moment cleaning up a small snow berm left from earlier this week. It's that time of year again. The mountains are starting to open and I plan to be skiing in a few weeks (I ski Squaw Valley and if that's your mountain, I  hope to see you on the slopes!)

Everyone Wants a Bunk Room

Is it because everyone wants grandkids? Who knows...but what I do know is that most of my clients ask for a bunk room.

My favorite bunk rooms have built-in beds like this charming example I found in a Pottery Barn catalogue:

If you want to go a step further, set each bunk up like its own little room:

Of course, privacy curtains are a must:

And don't forget that each bunk needs good lighting and comfy support pillows for reading in bed. Yes, the grandkids will probably sneak in a good late-night read with a flashlight, but when your adult friends see how cool the bunk room is, they'll want to stay there, too.

I'd certainly want to stay in this bunk room from the HGTV Dream House. You gotta know the party group will be staying in here:
